I bit the bullet and bought 10 fully stocked Layens Hives for my new home apiary. The Spanish beekeeper I bought them from opened them to inspect. They were bursting at the seems with bees. They bees are the local dark Apis Mellifera Iberiensis which are known to be a bit defensive. No bare skin beekeeping with these girls! I had two stings to prove it. They need a week to settle in my new apiary before I start to transition them into Top Bee Hives. They were treated for Varroa by the previous owner (Formic Acid) and previously by who knows what, so the wax is going to be rendered into candles as I dont want to contaminate my other wax stock.
