Doherty Grave

Mam mentioned recently that she remembered going to her Dad's funeral when she was 12. She said it was in Moston but she thought there was no headstone. First time she had ever mentioned this! Went off to Moston with her the next day, Saturday, asked someone at a bus stop if they knew of a Roman Catholic cemetery nearby. They pointed us in the right direction and we found it quite easily on Moston Lane. We got Mam's wheelchair into the cemetery but it was very rough ground so we couldn't search very much and the cemetery is huge. We left and Di and I went back on our own a few days later. The office was open and I asked if they had a record of my Grandfathers grave. Not without a date of death, they said, February 1942 I said. They found the reference and pointed me to the area it should be. Off we went in search, it only took about 15 minutes to find it. There was a headstone and to our amazement it was also the grave of my Great Grandfather and GGmother. Also on the headstone is Constantine my Grandfathers brother. Later I found out that Grandfathers sister Hannah was also buried in the same grave although she is not entered on the headstone. I remember going to Aunt Hannh's house as a young child. It only had gas lights as there was no electricity! It used to frighten me when the mantle flared upon lighting. Here is a phot of the grave.
